Who am I?
Having been diagnosed with ADHD at a young age but never medicating, I was forced to develop the skills I needed to cope. Years of working on my own time management and focus led to a love of planning, communication, and organization.
Now that attention to detail and drive to work my hardest pushes me in other aspects of my life and my work. From my photography to my current work in customer service, I feel the drive to do my absolute best and to always have a happy customer.
In my previous career, working as a manager assistant trainer at a highly competitive barn, all of these skills proved to be vital. With so many horses and clients, I wore many hats at once to make sure everything always ran smoothly. No task was too small for my attention; I did everything from keeping track of each client's schedule to making sure every spec of brass in the building was polished to a high shine.
It was here I also developed my skills in communication. I taught all ages from six to sixty and above, and I had to constantly adapt to make sure the information I was presenting was clear, fun, and easy to replicate. Plus, to put it nicely, there were a lot of big personalities and it was my job to keep everyone happy. However, I felt that my talents were not being put to their best use, and so a change was needed.
It’s these skills that made my transition into UX an easy decision for me. Over the years at my previous job, I learned how to talk to and effectively communicate with all sorts of people, giving me a unique edge in customer research. My deeply ingrained desire for organization allows me to keep myself and others on track, making for a smooth and timely workflow. And of course, my deeply ingrained empathy pushes me to do the very best I can by everyone. UX design utilizes all of my present skills and pushes me to improve further in everything from my artistic eye to my problem solving, keeping me engaged and happy with my work better than I could have imagined. And so, guided by my empathy and desire for clarity, I use my communication and problem solving skills to turn research insights into design solutions.
